According to the latest report from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the number of cancer cases will rise to 19.3 million by 2025. Death caused by cancer around the world have risen, and fatality rates are higher in less developed countries.
The report found that lung, breast and colorectal cancers are the most common conditions worldwide in men and women. And the most cancer related deaths are caused by lung, liver and stomach cancers.
In 2012, the global death toll from cancer rose to 8.2 million with sharp rises in breast cancer as the disease tightened its grip in developing countries struggling to treat an illness driven by Western lifestyles.
According to IARC, 8% from 7.6 million were killed, this is as same as the previous survey released in 2008. Also in 2012, 522,000 women were killed by breast cancer, up 14% in the same period.
David Forman, head of IARC’s Section of Cancer Information, said “breast cancer is also a leading cause of cancer death in the less developed countries of the world.”
